“Le cinema et la vie” Truffaut used to say.
Luca and Victoria drive the reader into Truffaut’s creative world and life. His childhood in Paris, his family, his friendship with Robert Lachenay and his beginnings as a movie critic: the author portrays the French director as a curious and shy child who finds the way to express himself through the movies, reflecting in them his own story. Through the many visual references to the cinema (Chaplin and Hitchcock, among others, and the title itself inspired by L’homme qui aimait les femmes) and the books Truffaut especially loved (Le Roman d’un tricheur, De grandes espérances), younger readers will discover a fascinating and inspiring story; adults will find the roots of one of the most loved and celebrated directors of all times.
